Efficacy and Mechanism of Action

Vector peptides are responsible for transporting and stabilizing oligoelements such as copper and manganese, bringing them to the skin and allowing them to be ingested by epithelial cells [5,11]. Copper is one of the metals that can be transported through these peptides and plays a role in wound healing. It is also a cofactor of enzymes such as lysyl oxidase, tyrosinase and superoxide dismutase. It is essential for collagen synthesis, melanogenesis and superoxide dismutase (antioxidant effect) [24]. In addition, these peptides can stimulate key enzymes; for example, tripeptide-copper complex glycyl-L-histidine-L-lysine-Cu2+ (copper peptide GHK-Cu or copper tripeptide 1), which not only transports copper, but also increases the tissue level of metalloproteinases, which are essential components of the extracellular matrix of enzymes that cause degradation.


Experimental data and research reports

Simeion and his collaborators (2000) confirmed the effect of GHK-Cu on the synthesis of metalloproteinase (MMP-2) in cultured dermal fibroblasts. In their study, cultured fibroblasts treated with GHK-Cu showed increased levels of MMP-2. This can be demonstrated by the increase of MMP2 gene level and the increase of tissue metalloproteinase inhibitors (TIMP-1 and TIMP-2) secretion. GHK-Cu is also responsible for the remodeling of extracellular matrix, because it regulates MMP expression by directly acting on wound fibroblasts. A study conducted by collaborator (2005) describes the application of GHK containing cream. - Cu lasted 12 weeks. 71 volunteers aged 50 to 59 were studied. The results showed that the aging effect was significantly reduced. In another study by the same author, they described using similar experimental conditions to apply the preparation to the eyes of 41 volunteers. The subjects were also given placebos and controls containing vitamin K. In two studies, creams containing GHK-Cu have been shown to improve skin elasticity and tightness, as well as reduce fine lines and deep wrinkles.
